Customer Care, evolved
Real time preview
Apple has designed a sort of easy-to-drive car with Passbook. Does it involve new technologies such as near field communications (NFC)? No, it doesn’t. Passbook doesn’t require any new hardware. Passbook simply creates gift cards, discount coupons and tickets of any kind, and traders use a barcode scanner to read them. The good news is that while most businesses are already equipped to scan passes kept on Passbook, they are not suitably equipped for other devices that employ NFC technology.
A current example is the Major League Baseball announcement saying that it plans to introduce the issuance of Passbook passes on a permanent basis next season. This announcement was made following the experiment at the end of last season that showed a strong inclination towards the use of Passbook passes by purchasers of online tickets. The comfort of having a complete ticket rather than a link in a text message is psychologically very important. The immediacy of the connection is another strength, because the buyer receives the pass directly on his or her phone, rather than by email or having to tap on a link and wait for the page to load.
Later this month, it appears that users will be able to purchase Apple products from home, save the ticket of the purchase on Passbook, and go to an Apple Store to collect the product after scanning the ticket that has been kept on their iPhone. However, this is just the beginning for new transactions via mobile phone. This first step is important to ensure that all operators are acclimatised to the new Passbook system, having been driven by the number of advantages and examples of large companies.
At the same time, the presence of tools, such as those offered by Passdock, are very useful in standardising the process of change for all businesses and making sure that all types of retailers are successful by using the easiest system of approach, which is through the individual steps of creation, management, distribution and updating of Passbook passes.
